RESEDA – A suspect who police said shot at a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter and officers and who was shot and killed by officers in Reseda was identified by county authorities Wednesday.
As officers arrived to the area of the call, they spotted the suspect – – identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office as Yervand Serobyan — run into an apartment complex on Victory Boulevard near the intersection with Reseda Boulevard, police said.
According to the LAPD, the shooting occurred about 6:30 p.m. Sunday when an armed man shot at officers who confronted him in the 6400 block of Reseda Boulevard.
An officer in a helicopter overhead reported Serobyan appeared to fire a gun at it, then ran to an alley behind the apartment complex, according to the police statement.
The gunfire exchange with officers occurred in that alley, where the suspect was shot and declared dead at the scene, the LAPD stated. No officers were injured.
A preliminary investigation revealed there were no signs the helicopter was struck by gunfire, according to the LAPD.
A handgun was recovered from the scene and booked as evidence, according to police.
