LONG BEACH – A 45-year-old man who died when he was struck by a pair of vehicles in Long Beach, prompting a search for one of the motorists who fled the scene, was identified Thursday.
Jeffrey Krajeski was struck around 11 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Seventh Street and Channel Drive, according to the Long Beach Police Department and the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police said a 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 being driven eastbound on Seventh Street toward West Campus Drive struck a man walking in front of the sedan and immediately pulled over to a curb on Seventh Street to assist the victim.
“While stopped, the driver observed a black truck drive over the pedestrian she had just struck,” police said in a statement.
The driver of that vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene.
Long Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived at the location, where they pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Police said detectives have not determined if speed, distracted, or impaired driving were factors leading to the collision. It was unclear if the pedestrian was killed when struck by the initial vehicle or by the second.
