LOS ANGELES – A man was shot and killed Wednesday in an unincorporated area bordering South Los Angeles and a person of interest who authorities said knew him was detained, authorities said.
Deputies from the South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station responded to the 10500 block of South Budlong Avenue, near Vermont Avenue, in Westmont regarding an assault with a deadly weapon/gunshot call around 3:51 p.m. Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau reported
When they arrived, they detained a man as a person of interest in the case and a firearm was recovered, authorities said.
Authorities said that during the initial investigation, deputies discovered that the person of interest and victim knew each other, and there were no outstanding suspects.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
It was unclear what motivated the shooting.
