2UrbanGirls,
It is commendable that millions of dollars are being raised for victims of the recent wildfires but no one is asking where it is actually going?
The money raised is being given to nonprofit organizations instead of cutting checks directly to the people who lost everything.
FireAid raised $100 million and without saying where $50 million of it went, we only know that $50 million was disbursed to about 100 or so organizations to do stuff that makes no sense. Mostly the same groups who always get money and mostly not directly affiliated with Altadena or the Pacific Palisades communities.
Correct me if I’m wrong but none of the organizations are providing direct relief as a local news story highlighted the struggles renters are receiving who need money not referrals, toilet paper and the like.
It’s akin to the same waste being reported at the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) and the missing money to assist the homeless.
“They” split the money among all these organizations that siphon 25% for administrative costs and pay themselves to “do stuff”.
It appears as though the Fire Aid list is an absolute scam and they are the only ones posting where they sent their money. One organization I am aware of got funds for worker retraining. What does that even mean?
People need assistance paying their mortgages (which are still due) for homes they don’t have anymore and for hotels and/or rent.
Again, they don’t need toilet paper or retraining, they need MONEY!
Concerned Angeleno!
