LOS ANGELES – A 14-year-old Compton teen who was fatally shot in an unincorporated area between Gardena and Compton was identified Monday.
Deputies were called at 11:58 p.m. Friday to the 13100 block of Jarvis Avenue, between Main and San Pedro streets, in Willowbrook.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said homicide Lt. Steven De Jong.
The Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner identified him Monday as Elijah Davenport.
The family has established a GoFundMe fundraiser to assist them during this difficult time.
“Elijah leaves behind his devoted mother, Mercedes, his two siblings (Z’Khiyah (10) and Niko (1)), and a large family who are now facing the unimaginable pain of this sudden loss. As they grieve, they are also confronted with the unexpected financial burden of laying Elijah to rest.”
Elijah was a student at nearby Dominguez High School and was in the 9th grade.
“We are asking for any support you can offer to help give Elijah the proper farewell he deserves. No donation is too small–every bit helps during this heartbreaking time. If you are unable to contribute financially, we ask that you please keep Mercedes and her family in your prayers as they navigate this devasting loss.”
