It’s a Great Day in Compton! ¡Es un Gran Día en Compton!
Important Resources for Our Community.
As your City Clerk, I am committed to keeping residents informed about valuable resources that can improve your quality of life. This week, I want to highlight two important programs that may benefit many in our community.
Free MedicAlert IDs for Those in Need
If you or someone you know is living with a chronic illness, disability, or aging-related health concerns, the MedicAlert Foundation offers a free medical ID bracelet and a one-year Safe & Found membership for those who qualify based on financial need.
A MedicAlert ID can be lifesaving in emergencies, ensuring that first responders have immediate access to your critical medical information. To apply for a free medical ID and protection plan, visit MedicAlert.org/free-medical-id.
Youth@Work: Job Training & Paid Work Experience for LA County Youth
With summer break approaching, I want to focus on Los Angeles County’s Youth@Work Program, which provides work experience, job training, and career development for young people ages 14 to 24.
This program offers up to 160 hours of paid work experience and personal enrichment training at a rate of $17.28 per hour. Participants will have the opportunity to work with employers in the public, private, and non-profit sectors, gaining hands-on experience that can lead to long-term career opportunities. Youth@Work also provides resume-building support, interview preparation, and practical job training to help participants succeed in the workforce.
The program is open to LA County residents between the ages of 14 and 24 who have the legal right to work in the United States. Special consideration is given to young people facing barriers to employment, including school dropouts, foster or homeless youth, individuals from low-income households, pregnant or parenting teens, LGBTQ youth, and those with disabilities or limited English proficiency.
To apply, applicants must complete an online interest form. Once submitted, they will receive a confirmation, and all qualified individuals will be contacted regarding the next steps. Selection is based on program policies, and participation is not guaranteed. Those under 18 will need to obtain a work permit, and certain applicants may need to register for selective services if applicable.
To start your journey toward career development, visit caljobs.ca.gov or contact Brandy Arevalo at 213-571-6323 to learn more and apply.
