LOS ANGELES – Authorities sought public assistance Wednesday in finding a woman who crashed a vehicle in Leimert Park killing a 4-year-old boy and injuring two other passengers trapped inside the vehicle.
Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters responded to a report of a crash at 3648 S. Crenshaw Blvd., between Obama and Exposition Boulevards, around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
A white Infiniti FX35 driving at a high speed on northbound Crenshaw Boulevard at Rodeo Place lost control and collided with a building on the corner, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The driver abandoned the vehicle at the scene and drove away in a white sedan, police said.
Firefighters arriving at the scene found the victims trapped inside the vehicle, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Charles Miller.
The victims were freed from the vehicle and LAFD paramedics took them to Cedars-Sinai Hospital, where the 4-year-old child was pronounced dead, Miller said. The two adult victims, one of whom was the child’s mother, were seriously injured.
Police described the suspect only as a Black woman in her 30s. The cause of the collision was under investigation.
Authorities said a reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to suspect identification, apprehension, and conviction.
