WOODLAND HILLS – A 16-year-old boy was shot to death and five men were also wounded by gunfire Sunday at a house party in Woodland Hills, authorities said.
The shooting occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the 5900 block Winnetka Avenue, a couple blocks north of the Ventura (101) Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police said the suspect had been arguing with several people inside the house and as he was being escorted out by security, fired several shots into a crowd outside the party before fleeing.
The gunman fired several shots into the air before turning the gun on a crowd estimated at over 200 people, NBC4 reported, citing police.
The 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics rushed the wounded men to a hospital, where their injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The 8,000 sq ft home is listed on home-sharing platforms Airbnb, Booking.com, and Peersparce for upwards of $2,000 per night and can sleep up to 16 guests.
According to representatives from Airbnb, there were no bookings for this property when the deadly shooting occurred.
The listing on PeerSpace indicates the property can be rented for parties and guests are allowed to bring their own alcohol and “large events” must provide security.
Airbnb has a global policy that prohibits house parties in Los Angeles, meaning that all listings on the platform are not allowed to host parties or large gatherings, as part of their “Community Disturbance Policy” which aims to prevent disruptive behavior and protect neighborhoods. This policy was implemented in August 2020 and has since been made permanent.
Police had no description of the suspect.
Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call the LAPD’s Topanga station at 818-756-4800 or 818-756-4820, or during non-business hours and weekends, at 877-527-3247. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or lacrimestoppers.org.
