LONG BEACH – A man was fatally struck by a vehicle in Long Beach and the motorist driving that car stayed at the scene to cooperate with police, authorities said Thursday.
Officers were dispatched about 7:10 p.m. Wednesday to the area of Atherton Street and Ashbrook Avenue regarding a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The pedestrian was walking southbound in an unmarked crosswalk when he was struck by an eastbound 2012 Honda Crosstour on Atherton.
Paramedics rushed the pedestrian to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old resident of Los Angeles, remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Impaired driving does not appear to be a factor in the crash, police said.
Anyone with any information regarding the crash was urged to call the Long Beach Police Department at 562-570-7355. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call 800-222-8477 or go to lacrimestoppers.org.
