GARDENA – Authorities sought the public’s help Wednesday in identifying a driver involved in a hit-and-run collision that killed a man in Gardena.
The crash took place around 12:40 a.m. on Dec. 28, when a four-door white sedan traveling north on Vermont Avenue collided with a pedestrian on West 165th Place, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department rushed the victim to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The victim was identified as 70-year-old Thomas Michael Cavanaugh, a Los Angeles resident and military veteran.
The LAPD released a video on the department’s YouTube channel showing the fatal impact.
Police said a reward of up to $50,000 is available to members of the public who provide information leading to identification, apprehension or conviction in a fatal hit-and-run.
