HACIENDA HEIGHTS – The driver of a FedEx truck pulling two trailers was injured when the rig overturned on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Hacienda Heights and was struck by a white sedan, authorities said Tuesday.
The big rig overturned at about 10 p.m. Monday on the westbound Pomona Freeway at Hacienda Boulevard and the white sedan then crashed into it, witnesses told the California Highway Patrol. The sedan then caught fire. The trailers and engine separated from the truck.
The truck driver was taken to LA General Hospital for treatment of injuries, the CHP said. The condition of the sedan’s occupants was not available.
A hazardous materials crew was ordered to clean up a 100-gallon spill of diesel fuel.
The wreckage stretched over all but the HOV lane, the CHP said. Traffic was directed into the HOV lane. It was cleared and the lanes reopened at 4:46 a.m.
