SACRAMENTO — California lawmakers in the Assembly sent Gov. Gavin Newsom legislation he requested as part of a special session to bolster the state’s legal defenses and immigration services to fight President Donald Trump.
SBX1-1, allows the California Department of Justice to use $25 million on legal fights with the Trump administration. It also creates a website to track lawsuits between the state and the Trump administration. During President Trump’s first term, California sued the administration 123 times.
SBX1-2, provides $25 million in grants to non-profit organizations that provide immigration-related legal services, especially for those facing eviction, intimate partner violence and wage theft.
