GARDENA – A 76-year-old woman who was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Gardena was identified Wednesday.
The collision was reported around 7:40 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Van Ness Avenue and 135th Street, near Rowley Park, according to the Gardena Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles had collided, with one unresponsive driver still in a vehicle. Paramedics declared the woman deceased at the scene.
She was later identified by the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner as Patricia Ware.
The second driver — who fled the scene — was identified as 29-year-old Marian James, a resident of Los Angeles, police said. Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department located and placed James under arrest outside of her home and she was later booked at the Gardena Police Department.
A preliminary investigation revealed that James was going southbound on Van Ness when she ran a red light at 135th, colliding with the eastbound vehicle, police said.
