MONTEREY PARK – A pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a vehicle on a freeway near Monterey Park was identified Friday by county authorities.
The pedestrian was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s office as Jorge Garcia, 16, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision was reported at 1:31 a.m. Thursday and California Highway Patrol officers were called to the connector road from the westbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway and the southbound Long Beach (710) Freeway where they found the victim, according to CHP Officer Sergio Garcia.
A SigAlert was issued by the CHP for the closure of three lanes for the connector road from the westbound 10 freeway and the southbound 710 freeway for two hours while they investigated the cause of the crash.
