WOODLAND HILLS – Authorities Tuesday identified a 47-year-old man who was fatally shot in an exchange of gunfire with the Los Angeles Police Department in a Woodland Hills motel.
The shooting occurred at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday at the Vantage Point Inn at Ventura Boulevard and Baza Avenue, according to LAPD Officer D. Orris.
Officers from the LAPD’s Topanga Division responded to a report of an armed vandalism suspect in the motel.
“Upon arrival, officers encountered the suspect walking in the driveway towards the street,” the LAPD said in a statement. “The suspect produced what appeared to be two firearms and fired at officers, resulting in an officer-involved shooting.”
The suspect — identified Tuesday as Benjamin Prince Bradley — allegedly retreated toward a parked vehicle, but quickly returned with one firearm and fired again at officers. He then fled back into the hotel and a perimeter was established for a SWAT team to assist, police said.
Upon the suspect’s refusal to surrender, the SWAT team entered the hotel and located Bradley deceased at the bottom of a stairwell.
An AEA Harpoon double-barrel shot air pistol and an AEA model B&WT9 air rifle, both loaded, were recovered from the scene and booked as evidence, according to the LAPD.
No officers were injured during the exchange. The department’s Force Investigation Division was investigating the shooting.
