LONG BEACH – A 75-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in Long Beach after falling in a crosswalk, authorities said Saturday.
The victim was identified as Elvira Cuellar of Compton, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
Officers were dispatched at about 4 p.m. Friday to East Greenleaf and Long Beach boulevards, north of the 91 Freeway. Paramedics and sheriff’s deputies were already at the scene, and Cuellar was pronounced dead.
Police said a 2009 Chevrolet HHR had made a left turn from East Greenleaf to go south on Long Beach Boulevard when it struck Cuellar, who had fallen in the marked crosswalk in the intersection.
The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Speed, distracted driving and impaired driving did not appear to have contributed to the collision, police said.
