TUSTIN – A driver was killed in a solo-vehicle crash early Monday morning.
A dark-colored SUV crashed into the center divider of the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Tustin and burst into flames, killing at least one person inside and sending debris flying across both sides of the freeway.
The crash was reported at 3:10 a.m. on the northbound Santa Ana Freeway just south of Tustin Ranch Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
One witness told the CHP a red sedan was being driven recklessly before the crash.
A SigAlert was issued for all northbound lanes, with traffic diverted off at Jamboree Road with the far-right lane reopening at 3:53 a.m. The Jamboree Road on-ramp was also shut down.
The CHP said that about 10 feet of concrete barrier was damaged.
