I read Marvin McCoy’s article Opinion: Inglewood mayor, council using monopoly money to buy residents support and I’m wondering what was the thought process behind Mayor James T. Butts Jr.’s initiative to “gift” a Property Tax Rebate to some homeowners?
A number of homeowners still have not received any notice of a $500 property tax rebate, and a number of those who received the letter find it confusing (citing credibility, process). There has apparently been conflicting info from the Administration.
The timing of the mailing was awkward and questionable. Stamped October 31, 2024, and arriving the day before the 2024 Elections
The City has repeatedly tried and in a number of ways to get as much info from Residents, in particular, Homeowners (who they often mistreat and ignore)
Apparently, they’ve extended the response deadline as apparently, they realized a lot of “glitches”. Now, maybe Jan. 15th. (Please verify).
I’m hearing the questionnaire is extensive. It is supposed to verify our identities. In this day and age of ID theft, mail fraud, and hacking, and the City has not been good regarding security, is this a Trusted neutral third party collecting the info through a secure portal?
Does the City have sufficient cybersecurity measures in place?
$360k to the company to administrate and do ACH direct deposit or mail out debit cards.
If it’s a property tax rebate, while it’s nice to have cash in hand, is there a legal issue in having an option to have the City send it directly to the Assessor or Mortgage Servicer, using the APN#?
They keep trying to get as much of our private info in one place. Another source of vulnerability that helps Inglewood meddle in our lives, potentially putting liens on our homes when they’re not enforcing the basics of many other rules and regulations that impact our quality of life.

*Editor’s note: A complaint has been filed with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office questioning if this is a gift of taxpayer funds due to the discriminatory reasoning for excluding some property owners.

Indeed suspicious would be the most common response among those who have and those who have not recieved the letter.

yes indeed the feel good fuzzy when he has his favored puppets on the ballot creating an all is wonderful image is apparently optics we are supposed to believe when we cast our votes.
2. Some not all
Apparently only some are made the offer as opposed to all sceams inequity.

That JTB and his band of go alongs interestingly think they are entitled to all your personal information if you are desperate enough to sell your soul for $500.00 is in sharp contrast to their unwillingness to be truthful about their personal lives.
In days gone by all elected home addresses and home phones and additional places of business were posted for all to contact as they seemed fit.
My privacy is worth more than $500.
