I live in an apartment complex in Inglewood located directly under the flight path. We have been promised sound proof windows since Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. took office in 2011.
As you may recall, the program was in jeopardy due to misspending and Butts alleged he restored the funding to continue with the program.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the City spent the funds soundproofing homes NOT in the flight path.
Inglewood spent millions of dollars in public funds to soundproof middle-class areas of the city while bypassing one of the poorest neighborhoods where the roar from the Los Angeles International Airport flight path is loudest, according to a Times data analysis.

Over the last several decades, the Federal Aviation Administration and Los Angeles World Airports have given the city nearly $400 million to purchase and demolish hundreds of homes around the flight path and soundproof thousands of others.
A Times review of local and federal records shows Inglewood spent the money for soundproofing disproportionately in middle-class — and primarily single-family — neighborhoods on the east side of the city, farthest from the airport. Most of the eligible homes there received soundproofing.
To make a long story short, we got the windows last year but the City’s vendor hasn’t completed hooking up the electricity to turn on the AC units they installed.
Its now nearly two years later and we still have NO functioning AC units and no timeframe as to when it will be completed.
Its been alleged by both City Treasurer Wanda Brown and the City’s former accountant that the City misspent federal funds for the soundproofing program in a now settled lawsuit against the City. Councilwoman Gloria Gray has made the same statements about Mayor Butts breaking local, state and federal laws and thus asking for an independent investigation of him by a law firm OUTSIDE of his purview.

Misusing Federal money is a crime. Folks need to report this to the FBI and US Department of Justice. Make some noise, contact the TV News and vote for someone else!

Did someone actually ask where the money is?
How often do we have to say listen with a critical ear then do your own fact finding !! May we suggest look at Transparent California.com , look at each weeks payment of bills? For goodness sake, how many times do we have to say a party (usually $20,000 or more) to gain your happy feelings and your vote means that many dollars less for “real need” services?
And need we ask where to does everyone think the millions in attorney fees and settlement agreement dollars come from? Dah that would be the services you didn’t get from the taxes you paid!!!
Out of curiosity..Who do you think pays and pays and pays for each of those commercials on the wow billboards which provide visuals in the sky littering our major intersections. Yes the entities featured and the same is true of those which feature “the city of champions”!!!
Yep the slogan created for the 1932 Olympians should be changed as we are now the “City of NonStop overhead Commercials”.
Incomplete work has for many years been the hallmark of Inglewood Unified School District Contracts and of course the incomplete mitigation of LAWA sound impact is what made way (cleared the land) for the Intuit Dome….
Perhaps it is a case of silencing the squeaky wheel till they replace the wheel with something else ….hmmm a 7 story condo perhaps????
