LONG BEACH – Authorities Monday identified a man who was killed in a shooting near a homeless encampment in Long Beach that left another man wounded.
Officers responded at 1:55 a.m. Sunday to an “unknown trouble” call in the 2600 block of East Ocean Boulevard in the city’s Bluff Park area and found one man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper body, the Long Beach Police Department reported. Paramedics took him to a hospital.
“During the investigation, officers located a second male adult victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body near a homeless encampment,” police said in a statement. “Officers attempted life-saving measures until being relieved by LBFD personnel, who determined the victim deceased at the scene.”
On Monday, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the fatally wounded man as 51-year-old Frank Suggs Jr., who was homeless.
“Homicide detectives are investigating the motive and circumstances leading up to the shooting,” the police statement said. `Detectives are working to identify a possible suspect(s).
