Hello,
Just sharing in case this is of interest to your publication. IUSD is eliminating the Spanish Dual Immersion program at Frank D. Parent school effective 11/4/2024 and replacing it with an ineffective and watered-down Spanish elective-style program.
A meeting was held yesterday in which low-level officials with no authority to affect change from the school district “listened” to the concerns of the Dual Immersion families and responded with insincere “sympathetic” head nods and condescending smiles. Nothing has been communicated to the rest of the school yet, whose children will be pulled out of their classrooms for 45 minutes/day and required to participate in a Spanish class they didn’t choose, in addition to having their class size increase due to the DI children getting added to the regular English learning classes.
The district allowed us to enroll in this program and get two months into the school year, then ripped the rug out from under our feet. Now there are many families scrambling to figure out what their next steps are. Almost every parent in that meeting told them “we will leave this school and most likely this district” and it was very apparent that they were unconcerned and happy to sign the permit allowing us to leave the district. Every family in that room felt unwanted and unappreciated.
The principal claims she fought hard to keep Spanish at the school and this compromise was the only way to keep the program (and therefore the teachers) from going away entirely, but from my perspective she is a lame duck and hasn’t accomplished much other than lip service in the time since she joined the school earlier this year. It’s pathetic that we live in homes that cost over $1 million, pay taxes on those homes, and have to go outside our school district to find a quality education for our children.
Shame on Inglewood USD. Shame on Dr. Coffee, Dr. Morris, Dr. Lucas, and Dr. Goolsby who we were told are making human resources decisions that affect our children’s education and couldn’t even be bothered to come to the meeting to own their decisions and respond to our concerns. Shame on the school board. Shame on Ms. Branch for leading us to believe there was a new principal that would actually turn this school around and giving me hope that I made the right decision by supporting my local school instead of going outside the district.
Sincerely,
A frustrated parent!

Dr. Goolsby never cared about her staff, students or parents
Impressive students at Parent Elementary loose a program and are upset and want us to grieve…..yet where was their concern while the entire school known as Daniel Freeman, Warren Lane, and Worthington have been completely closed.
News flash East Inglewood students deserve an equal education to those of Frank Parent but for years the inequity have been obvious to all.
