Letter: Dionne Faulk MUST demand Mayor Butts resignation to win re-election

Is it safe to say that Inglewood’s government is officially broken?

To say I’m surprised would be a tremendous understatement, as history has shown nothing ever good from someone with unchecked powers and Inglewood elected officials, including Dionne Faulk, the councilwoman from the 4th District who is seeking re-election November 5th.

It’s time for the “adults in the room,” business owners, developers, and elected officials alike, to take an emphatic position and conclude that the Mayor no longer represents the values or spirit of Inglewood and technically never has.

Can Inglewood residents, taxpayers and business leaders continue to do business together and turn a blind eye to the Mayor’s narcissistic, abusive, and criminal-like behavior that normally would be shunned if it was literally anyone else?

I mean how many more accounts do we need of Mayor Butts’ abusive nature and more alarmingly his penchant to disregard and belittle women, specifically women of color?

Excuse me but am I foolish to believe that Inglewood Councilwoman Dionne Faulk as the first elected black woman to the Inglewood City Council has a moral and ethical obligation to protect women at all costs, especially women of color especially when she claims to be a staunch advocate for women’s rights, in addition to hosting a march/ rally this weekend supporting women’s rights?

Well if women’s rights are important I beg that Faulk obtain the letter Gloria Gray sent to Interim City Manager Mark Weinberg which calls for an independent investigation of Mayor Butts for creating a hostile work environment, while at the same time putting her in fear of her safety.

This isn’t funny and it’s quite concerning and if these allegations have any merit shouldn’t the “adults in the room” finally do what they should have done a long time ago and ask for Mayor Butts’ resignation?

Trust me when I say that although this isn’t an easy conversation, it’s a necessary one.

Although a complex conversation because to be fair you have to outweigh the “Good vs Bad” but with no obvious guardrails to reign the Mayor in it’s hard to imagine any scenario where the Mayor’s leadership style and antics do more harm than good to the City and more importantly at the expense of taxpayers.

How do you reconcile the two?

It’s hard to argue that the Mayor’s leadership hasn’t transformed the City but just as easy as that argument can be made it can also be argued that the Mayor has served his purpose dutifully and at this point he is overstaying his welcome.

Let’s be real the Mayor Butts’ leadership style, although arguably effective in many ways but is an acquired taste, and unless you’re willing to subject yourself to the abuse and the humiliation the act can get old very fast and there are plenty of those on the receiving end of his abuse that can attest to this.

The fact of the matter is this behavior isn’t normal, nor it should be tolerated and the fact that we keep moving this proverbial benchmark and creating seemingly two different sets of standards when it comes to allowing the Mayor to operate with ” impunity” so to speak has largely brought morale down throughout City Hall and the Inglewood Police Department.

The only logical decision for Dionne Faulk to make is to demand Mayor Butts’ immediate resignation or she will find herself on the outside looking in next to former Councilman George Dotson.

Dione Faulk, as well as Eloy Morales, AND Alex Padilla should absolutely stand up and alongside Gloria Grey ask for an investigation simply because all investigations re hostile work
      environment should be investigated.

DIONE FAULK however has an even greater and theoretically has a far more significant reason to insist that Gloria Grey’s investigation request become real because if she does not she reinforces the idea that she (Dione) is absolutely nothing more than a hypocritical puppet placed in the District 4 seat with the conditional stipulation she speak only words she is told to and votes accordingly to delight JTButts’ need for unanimity.

Yep this is the line in the sand….doing what’s right or defending the offender…..
There is NO ONE who has watched Butts in the flesh or even on video, who can honestly say that his hostility is not on full blown display whenever anyone asks a question, much less suggests an option other than to praise the ground he walks on.

Let’s be real, considering Dione was placed in the District 4 chair, holding one’s breath waiting for her to do right may not be wise.
