Balfour Beatty has been selected to deliver the approximately $170 million (£130 million) reconstruction of Inglewood Unified School District’s (IUSD) Inglewood High School in Los Angeles.
Once complete, the campus modernisation will transform Inglewood High School into a state-of-the-art educational facility, combining new construction and strategic renovations to create safer, healthier, and technologically advanced learning spaces that prepare students for success in the 21st century.
Funded by the $240 million (£184 million) Measure I bond program, the new Inglewood High School reconstruction addresses IUSD’s goal of upgrading schools built in the 1920s and 1930s. The bond program authorises a prudent plan with a reliable local funding source for neighbourhood schools, while helping with local economic recovery in Los Angeles County.
Balfour Beatty will deliver approximately 110,000 square feet in new construction and approximately 105,000 square feet in modernisation to the existing high school. With the majority of the work being a full reconstruction of the campus, some buildings will remain and be renovated such as the Gym, Auditorium and Woodshop facility.
Emily Kay, Balfour Beatty vice president in California, said: “As California’s leading K-12 builder, we’re honoured to partner with Inglewood Unified School District on this transformative project for Inglewood High.
“Our deep expertise in modernising educational facilities across the state, combined with our established presence in the region, uniquely positions us to deliver the best-in-class learning environments the Los Angeles community deserves.
