ANAHEIM – A 3-year-old girl died in Anaheim after being found locked in a car with her mother in sweltering heat, according to a report Saturday.
NBC4 reported that the child died of heat-related complications. Family members told the station the mother had locked herself and the girl in the car and it was two hours before they were found, unconscious.
The report indicated that Anaheim police responded at 4:20 p.m. Friday to the vehicle and found that a family member had smashed out a window to try to rescue the girl and that the outside temperature at the time was 104 degrees.
The woman and her daughter were taken to a hospital, where the child died. The mother was expected to survive, according to Channel 4.
Family members told the news station that they made the discovery when attempting to go pick up an older child from school.
Police were waiting for the mother, whose name was not disclosed, to recover so they questioned her about the incident.
