2UrbanGirls,
The department continues to ignore obvious safety issues at its juvenile hall facilities which are a direct threat to our safety.
Two teens were detained and released after attempting to smuggle contraband into the facility. This is the SECOND time this happened in a span of weeks.
Two 17-year-olds were caught near the back gate of the facility and were found in possession of vape pens, cell phones, chargers, a sim card, and a loaded semi-automatic handgun with 10 rounds in it. The two were detained and released on house arrest after 3 days.
The department did not report this incident to the public.
The last public announcement of outsiders attempting to smuggle contraband into the halls was three weeks ago when two other individuals were found trying to throw stuff over the wall.
The fact that this is continuing to happen, absent consequences for the offenders, makes this an ongoing concern for those who work in the facility.
When will staff’s safety be as important as the juveniles we’re charged with monitoring? Serious answers only!
