INGLEWOOD – Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. is calling for an audit of access to police department facilities after an employee launched a verbal assault on the police department’s watch commander that resulted in her arrest.
According to sources within Inglewood Police Department, a City employee was pulled over for a traffic stop that resulted in their getting a ticket. It is alleged that while the employee was signing the ticket, she assaulted the officer by jabbing the pen into their hand.
“This employee was able to use her badge to swipe into the watch commander’s office, after hours, and was ultimately arrested due to the disturbance she caused,” said the source.
“It is further alleged she called the mayor who then had jail staff release her with a citation.”
This was corroborated by publicly available records on the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department inmate locator website. The website details she was booked on Aug. 31 at 6:00 p.m. She was released the following morning at 9:18 a.m.
Employees within City Hall cannot fully access the building because their badges are only activated for the floor they work on.
The mayor notified all City employees on Sept. 3 that a security audit of access to police department facilities would be conducted while revising the procedure on how non-police personnel can access those areas.
Based on the email, it appears the employee had full access to city hall and the police department because they work in the Information Technology & Communications Department.
She has been placed on administrative leave and is due in an Inglewood court on Sept. 4.
