SANTA ANA – A 25-year-old woman was struck by a car and killed Thursday in Santa Ana.
The woman was struck just before 1 p.m. while walking in a crosswalk by a vehicle attempting to turn left onto MacArthur Boulevard from Birch Street, according to Officer Natalie Garcia of the Santa Ana Police Department.
Police officers and the Orange County Fire Authority responded to the scene and found the woman unconscious in the roadway. She was rushed to an area hospital and was later pronounced dead.
Detectives determined upon further investigation that the woman was walking eastbound inside a crosswalk before being struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Birch Street.
“The vehicle turned eastbound onto MacArthur Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian,” police said in a statement.
According to Garcia, the driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. It does not appear alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision, the officer added.
Anyone with information regarding the fatal collision was urged to contact Detective K. Briley at 714-245-8215 or the department’s Traffic Division at 714-245-8200.
