FULLERTON – A motorcyclist was struck and killed by a compact SUV Wednesday in Fullerton.
Investigators determined from a preliminary investigation that a white SUV traveling eastbound on West Commonwealth Avenue attempted a U-turn at North Basque Avenue, causing westbound traffic to stop abruptly, according to the Fullerton Police Department.
“The motorcycle was traveling westbound on Commonwealth Avenue when the rider attempted to avoid the stopped vehicles. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle in oncoming eastbound traffic when the Toyota RAV4, traveling eastbound Commonwealth Avenue, struck the rider in the roadway,” police said in a statement.
Fullerton Fire Department paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. The man’s name will be released by the Orange County Coroner upon notification of the next of kin.
The 47-year-old man driving the RAV4 remained at the scene during the investigation.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the cause of the collision.
Officers were sent to the scene around 3:11 p.m. and found the motorcyclist lying in the roadway, suffering from traumatic injuries, and had his black 2020 Harley Davidson stuck underneath a gray 2021 Toyota RAV4, police said.
