IRVINE – A man was found dead inside an Irvine home overnight, and police later shot a possible suspect nearby, sending that person to a hospital in unknown condition.
Police initially responded around 2:15 a.m. to a home on Whistling Swan near Wetstone in response to a 911 call, according to the Irvine Police Department. Arriving officers found that a minivan had crashed into the garage of the home.
Inside, a man was found dead, police said.
Then, around 3:25 a.m., an officer came in contact with a possible suspect at West Yale Loop and Stone Creek South and wound up shooting the person, police said. That possible suspect was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
Police said a knife was recovered at the scene, but no officers were injured.
There was no immediate word on the relationship, if any, between the victim and the possible suspect.
