SAN PEDRO – A Metro bus driver was assaulted Thursday in the San Pedro area, and a man in his 30s was taken into custody.
Officers responded to the area of 22nd Street and Pacific Avenue around 11:40 a.m. Thursday regarding a physical dispute involving the driver who sustained minor injuries, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
According to Metro, the suspect tried to board the bus, which was stopped in a layover zone in San Pedro, leading to the physical confrontation. The driver was “treated on site and released,” according to Metro.
The suspect was taken into custody, but his name was not immediately released.
“Metro is outraged to learn about this senseless act of violence against our operator and is grateful for all our operators who deal with societal issues while transporting riders across our system,” according to a statement from the transit agency. “Metro thanks the LAPD for quickly apprehending the suspect.”
