LANCASTER – A 30-year-old woman who was shot to death in Lancaster was identified Tuesday by the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner.
The shooting occurred at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the area of East Avenue H and Challenger Way, where the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
She was later identified by coroner’s officials as Nora Villanueva Campanor.
The alleged shooter had confronted the victim and a man at a Lancaster residence about 15 minutes earlier, where he fired a shot into the man’s home, but no injuries were reported, authorities said.
The suspect and victim — believed to have been an estranged couple — left that home in the woman’s vehicle, and eventually got into an argument inside the stopped vehicle in the area of East Avenue H and Challenger Way, sheriff’s officials said.
“At approximately 12:29 a.m., while involved in a verbal argument, the suspect and victim exited the vehicle. The suspect again produced the firearm and shot the victim, killing her,” the LASD said. “The suspect drove away in the victim’s vehicle, leaving the deceased victim at the scene.”
The alleged gunman then drove to the home of a member of the woman’s family in Palmdale and attempted suicide while inside the victim’s vehicle, the sheriff’s department said. He was rushed to a hospital to be treated for an apparent gunshot wound and was listed in critical condition.
