Hi 2UrbanGirls,
I am a reassigned Deputy Probation Officer II. I haven’t worked in juvenile hall in 19 years. The department has us supporting the Detentjon Services Officers but they are staging callouts.
The department thinks 8 classes will train us for this new culture and it’s dangerous. We are being held over almost every shift which is unsafe. We don’t have support from unit supervisors and/or directors who seem to be non-existent.
The youth are all gang-related. Many of them refuse to attend school and want to watch TV and play video games all day. What type of detention center is this?
Things have changed drastically in 19 years and I understand care first, but society is in for anarchy with this type of supervision. The youth need consistency, accountability, and rules to be upheld.
Programming should be daily, not babysitting. This department needs a true overhaul and the powers that be need to work these units and see for themselves what is happening, then possibly there can be reform until then, it will remain anarchy in there.

I think they should make it more like L.A. County Jail. Then they will want to program. 23 hour lockdowns. Hurry up and wait lifestyles. If they wanna get Loud in reception.. make them wait there all night. No video games only 1 tv for every one for that 1 hour program time. Make them earn everything… What’s this watch TV and play video games. Why they got video games in there?
