2UrbanGirls,
Please bring this disturbing information to the attention of Compton officials, taxpayers, and residents.
Are things so relaxed in Compton City Hall that employees can hold TWO full-time jobs, simultaneously?
HR Director Donald Grady appears to be working for both the City AND U.S. Vets according to emails I have obtained. As you can see, his automated reply shows him off work, at both jobs, during the same time period.
This is very inappropriate considering his office has yet to investigate any claims and/or grievances filed with his office, as required by state law, possibly due in part to him having outside employment. He’s firing off emails to employees about “following the law” but what would he call what he’s doing?
You should give Mr. Grady a call and ask him about it. He’s in training this morning but should be available this afternoon.

Is anyone going to acknowledge that the two Assistant City Managers just received a $40,000 pay raise? The very same individuals who are running this city into the ground! Meanwhile, the rest of the employees had to fight tooth and nail for a measly 9% increase over a 5-year union contract. These are the employees who actually keep the city running because everyone knows that the leadership in Compton is garbage. The city functions because of the underpaid workers, not because of management—who are utterly useless. Wake up, Compton. Someone needs to call the State and demand a takeover. Get this worthless Council and Management out… NOW!
He is very unresponsive to employees, shows up late and is hardy at work. Compton taxpayers and employees deserve someone who will do their job, not another more cronyism.
All the pieces are coming together. This Director demotes the previous HR Deputy Director, makes the position promotional only, and then the corrupt City Manager and the brainless council vote against an audit finding about promotional-only positions. TJ Jones, the HR Analyst acting as HR Deputy Director, is on the list for the promotional position because he’s covering for the corrupt HR Director Grady who is obviously double-dipping.
This is an absolute disservice to the employees who have been waiting more than eight months to get paid! This is the reason work is not getting done, because of the second full-time job. TJ won’t expose the truth because he’s securing his position as HR Deputy Director. This is also a disservice to the citizens as it is a blatant misuse of public funds!
And these are the people some citizens are praising? The crooked City Manager is in on this too, protecting his buddy, the HR Director! Wake up, people! The new administration is full of crooks, including the two Assistant City Managers! They all need to go including the Council.
Looks like someone has an ax to grind in this comment section because the facts being given by anonymous are wrong. First, the City Of Compton does have a policy on having two jobs. It is outlined in the city’s standard operating manual, Section 1, policy 1.17. It allows an employee to notify the city of having two jobs and creates an agreement outlines work details and alternate hours, for example, and must be signed and on file with the City Manager. Second, therefore having done this, the HR Director Donald Grady, the subject of this article, is not in violation. Try again. Third, the Compton city council did just reverse their vote on Open Competitiveness. I do disagree with that but saying so is not evidence of being so in the case of the Assistant HR Director. Changes must be made. Fourth, who specifically has not been paid in nine months but is still on the job? Doesn’t sound logical. Fifth, I’ve never heard anyone state the new city manager is corrupt. Where did that come from? He’s actually battling those with evidence of major corruption. Sixth, on that note, back to the city attorneys office where there is not one, but several employees including City Attorney Eric Perridin missing in action on a daily basis who, allegedly, may be accused of cronyism, time clock theft and waste of taxpayer dollars. Why keep dodging that major and current fact the public now is heavily contemplating. Do they have 2-job agreements on file? Seven, I’m wondering why anonymous is trying to mischaracterize and attack the very person, the City Manager, in the administration now asking hard questions about corruption in Compton that has actually existed long before the CM ever stepped foot in this city. Why else would he be the one to bring in an outside law firm to expose and uncover illegal if not corrupt acts in this city. Wonder why he would do that if he is corrupt? Stop playing mind games and setting forth false narratives to cover real corruption. This city has been there, heard that, seen that and is now moving on. VOTE REFORM IN NOVEMBER 2024! Vote Jasper Jackson, Joel Estrada, Satra Zurita and to make the City Attorney office an appointed position!
This is all laughable—the nerves have been struck! If the City Manager and HR Director aren’t at fault for any wrongdoing, you’re trying awfully hard to prove it. Can people change the record already? Stop shifting blame to cover up the real issue here. You’re all in the same boat, probably reading this post while eating dinner on the taxpayers’ dime. Can’t wait to see your downfall.
What is more inappropriate is allegedly the Compton City Attorney Eric Perrodin and some of his staff members claiming to work from home and stealing time from taxpayers. They do know there is a time clock, keylock and eyes can see how they may be performing elsewhere while under performing for the City of Compton. Know we have major issues and will not be distracted from reform by attempts to cast city eyes elsewhere.
Is there any policy indicating that executive and/or elected officials are not allowed to work from home?
Let’s not get technical. Because the first question I would then ask is why publish this letter in the first place about the Assistant Manager if work from home is permitted? Then there is no controversy. Right. But my concern is the productivity and the competency is not there in our legal department as seen by the recent debacle in court where City Attorney Perrodin and staff went soundly beaten by an outside city-hired municipal firm, this while legal work in the city has backed up and piled up, while people say they are missing in action. Not to mention a $14 million legal budget in Compton versus $3 million next door in Carson!
