LOS ANGELES – The family of a man found decomposing inside the Cecil Hotel in downtown Los Angeles have identified him.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office was seeking the public’s help in identifying the Latino man found dead inside the hotel on July 9.
The family have identified him as Jimmy Mercado, 26.
”This was the last death at the Cecil he was my relative although they haven’t made it public yet … Has anybody considered that maybe we have another serial killer at the hotel or a copycat …This place is so bad,” said the family member who reached out to 2UrbanGirls to identify him.
”And thank you so much [because] your article was really the only information we had.”
Residents who live in the Cecil Hotel have reached out to 2UrbanGirls sharing details of the horrors of living in the building since it’s become operable as affordable housing for the formerly homeless and those being released from prison.
According to residents, there have been two deaths at the property since June 28 and a total of eight deaths in the last month.
”A woman was found dead here inside a suitcase and Justin was stabbed to death outside,” said the resident who declined to be identified.
