INGLEWOOD – Authorities have identified a man who died while in the custody of Inglewood police officers on July 29.
Inglewood Police Department officers responded to the 200 block of East Beach Avenue around 1:00 p.m. due to reports of a man acting “erratically” and attempting to “break into apartments”.
It was reported on social media he suffered a medical emergency in the back of the IPD patrol vehicle but was listed as dying on the sidewalk.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Roosevelt Vallery, 56, as the deceased.
The department has not listed his cause of death.
Inglewood police routinely denies the public transparency in the day-to-day operations of the department by eliminating monthly police commission meetings and not using social media to effectively communicate with the city’s over 100,000 residents as it pertains to public safety issues.
According to Vallery’s social media, he is from Los Angeles and previously attended Verbum Dei High School in Watts.
