LONG BEACH – A 72-year-old man who was fatally shot in Long Beach was identified Friday by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.
Officers were sent to the 700 block of East First Street, near Alamitos Avenue, around 12:35 p.m. Wednesday regarding shots fired, according to the Long Beach Police Department. They found a man with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and administered life-saving measures until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department paramedics, who pronounced the victim dead at the scene, police said.
Investigators determined that the suspect and victim were neighbors upon further investigation but did not mention a motive for the shooting.
The suspect was later identified as 64-year-old John Higginbotham of Long Beach, who was taken to the Long Beach City Jail and booked on suspicion of murder with bail set at $2 million, police said.
The victim was later identified by the medical examiner as Maxwell Fromm.
