LONG BEACH – A 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Long Beach, authorities said Wednesday.
Aaron Garcia of Long Beach was taken into custody Tuesday by police who were assisting sheriff’s deputies during a routine eviction in the 400 block of Cerritos Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
“During the course of the eviction, officers located and arrested Garcia inside the residence. The suspect was transported to Long Beach City Jail where he was booked for murder and a probation violation. He is being held without bail,” police reported.
Officers were sent to the 2600 block of East Anaheim Street around 6:30 p.m. on June 19 regarding an unresponsive man on the ground who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body, according to the department.
The responding officers attempted life-saving measures until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department paramedics, who took the victim to a hospital, where he later died.
Investigators determined that the victim, Josue Manuel Matos, 38, of Long Beach, was engaged in a conversation with an unknown person before he was shot.
It was unknown whether the victim and suspect knew each other. The motive is under investigation, police said.
