MAYWOOD – – The family of a man killed in a shooting has established a GoFundMe account to raise funds for his burial and funeral costs.
The family has identified Armando Jr. Islas, 28, who was found fatally shot outside of the YMCA in Maywood on June 2.
We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear family member, Armando Jr. Islas, as a result of senseless gun violence. His untimely departure has created a void that can never be replaced. Armando Jr., age 28, was a cherished son, brother, and a beacon of light wherever he went. He was a dependable friend whom anyone could lean on, and his absence is profoundly impactful.
Armando found joy in constructing bikes and skateboards from scratch, dedicating countless hours to assembling BMX bikes and skateboards. He approached life with ambition and generously shared his wisdom with others.

The shooting was reported at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the 4800 block of E. 58th Street, west of the Los Angeles River, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Arriving deputies found the wounded man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Southwest Rio Vista YMCA is on the corner of 58th Street and Heliotrope Avenue, at the beginning of the block. However, it was unclear if the shooting occurred at that location.
The County Medical Examiner’s office indicates Islas was killed at a park.
A motive for the shooting and description of the shooter was not immediately known.
