LONG BEACH – An investigation was continuing Thursday into the fatal shooting of a 38-year-old man in Long Beach.
Officers were sent to the 2600 block of East Anaheim Street around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday regarding an unresponsive man on the ground who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
The responding officers attempted life-saving measures until the arrival of Long Beach Fire Department paramedics, who took the victim to a hospital, where he later died, police said.
Investigators determined that the victim, Josue Manuel Matos of Long Beach, was engaged in a conversation with an unknown person before he was shot.
The suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers, and detectives presume there were possible witnesses in the area.
