Francisco “Franky” Carrillo — a Democrat running for California Assembly in the 52nd Assembly District of California — spent 20 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. In 1991, he was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Donald Sarpy after two long trials — the first resulting in a hung jury and he was exonerated in 2011.
Carrillo serves on the Probation Oversight Commission of L.A. County and is the Chief Policy Advisor for the Los Angeles Innocence Project at Cal State L.A.
Now, new details of his pending divorce from his wife and mother of his two youngest children, Efrat Sharony, have been uncovered through publicly available documents and shared with L.A. Magazine. The documents include sworn statements from Sharony and some disturbing details.
