GARDEN GROVE – One man is dead and another person is in critical condition after a juvenile allegedly driving a stolen car crashed into three other vehicles while fleeing from police in Garden Grove, authorities said Sunday.
The crash took place near Taft Street and Trask Avenue at about 9:50 p.m. Saturday, according to Traffic Investigator John Yegler of the Garden Grove Police Department.
Traffic officers had spotted an allegedly stolen vehicle in the area of Taft Street and Garden Grove Boulevard a few minutes earlier, Yegler said. The officers tried to make a stop but the teenage driver sped away.
The driver fled south on Taft and then collided with three vehicles, police said. The suspect allegedly tried to flee on foot but was captured by officers. His name was withheld because he is a juvenile.
A passenger in the stolen vehicle also fled the scene and has not yet been located, Yegler said. Two other victims were rushed to a hospital in critical condition. One remains in critical condition while the other victim, identified as 34-year-old Kevin Luu of Garden Grove, died from his injuries.
The driver was booked into juvenile hall. Police said they believe that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
