LANCASTER – A man is in custody after an hours long standoff inside a Wendy’s restaurant in Lancaster Friday night.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies with the Lancaster Station and California Highway Patrol Antelope Valley Division responded to a disturbance call at the Wendy’s restaurant located at 20th Street West and Avenue I around 7:35 p.m.
A male black adult, wearing a burgundy sweatshirt, was reportedly sitting at a table with a gun covered with napkins. Deputies attempted various tactics to persuade him to surrender, but the situation remained unresolved.
A crisis negotiation team was requested to assist, and the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) was called in for support.
The man was taken into custody around 1:00 a.m. after he surrendered once chemical agents were deployed, according to Lt. Ryan Diaz with the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.
