INGLEWOOD – The Inglewood Police Department is requesting an increase in tow fees and a decrease in vehicle impound storage fees during the April 30 city council meeting.
According to the staff report, IPD is requesting a $10.17 tow fee increase from $174 to $184.17 and a decrease in vehicle impound storage fees by $1.58 from $49.84 to $48.26.
The most recent tow fee adjustment was authorized by the City Council on April 11, 2023.
According to the Inglewood Municipal Code (IMC) Section 8-90.5, it gives the police chief the authority, with the consent of the city council or resolution, to establish maximum rates for referral of towing services to the City.
“The established rates shall equal the average of maximum rates permitted by the jurisdictions served by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in the Los Angeles Metropolitan area.”
According to the staff report, each company was required to pay 7% of the permittee gross receipts “developed from or attributed to the City’s referred business”.
On April 19, 2022, IPD requested a Tow Fee Increase to increase rates. Tows increased $47.02 from the then rate of $132.33 to $179.35. The daily storage fee increased $11.37 from the then rate of $45.63 to $57.00.
