STOCKTON – Hollywood Unlocked CEO Jason Lee was the top vote getter in the March primary and is headed to a November runoff against incumbent Kimberly Warmsley.
According to the Stockton Record, Lee announced his run for the District 6 council seat in December, six months after the current council members denied his nonprofit Hollywood Cares a $1 million grant in an unanimous vote in May.
At the time, City Manager Harry Black said the nonprofit’s plan for the money was too vague. Hollywood Cares also had a roughly $3,000 unpaid debt to the city from a previous project, Black said.
If elected, California’s conflict-of-interest laws would prevent Lee from voting on funding to his nonprofit, and from taking part in any other council decision that would benefit him financially.
Lee is a former union organizer and leveraged his social media accounts to propel himself as the top vote getter receiving 1,049 votes (38%) and Warmsley received 863 (32%).
