Do the Main Library HVAC improvements (some funds diverted from CDBG housing) include the adjacent Grace Waddington building on Library premises that has been known for a looooong time to have HORRIBLE ventilation?
On Dec. 5, 2023, the City approved reallocating close to $158,000 in funds that were to be used to assist renters to an HVAC system. Really?
This was Inglewood Administration’s Covid-19 solution for residents to participate in City Council meetings in person, remotely.
The very small auditorium has no real cross ventilation (2 doors on the same side), and Security outnumbered residents. It’s also not ADA compliant. Our complaints re: infeasibility were ignored.
The current Administration has been systematically shutting down public access to City Hall, our elected officials and services for years prior to COVID onset and it continues today.
Among the physical in person tactics to apparently deliberately discourage constituent participation in the civic process, most elected officials have steadily distanced themselves and the 9th Floor Chamber access was shut off long prior, excessive and expensive ground floor security and tracking instituted.
The Mayor exiled our elected City Treasurer, Wanda Brown, from the 9th floor (among other things), “Community” Room A was closed to the public, however City Clerk Aisha Thompson has full access to use as her personal event hall.
Should citizens, who dare to show up Tuesdays, for 2 p.m. city council meetings, to participate in person are alloted only three minutes for items on the city agenda but face constant interupptions from the mayor, which reduces speaking time. At the end of the meeting, we get one minute to comment on non-agenda items but also face interruptions for the mayor to spew his rhetoric which most times doesn’t include him answering direct questions.
So, just now, and only due to an influx of additional federal dollars that were earmarked to assist people with back owed rent, the City decides to address the poor ventilation and transmission dangers?
And they claim to be so concerned about our health and safety.
