CARSON – A motorist was fatally injured Friday in a crash into the Dominguez Channel in the Carson area.
The crash was reported about 3:45 a.m. near Avalon Boulevard and the San Diego (405) Freeway, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The driver of the vehicle was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead, according to the fire department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. No other casualties were reported, according to the fire department.
The cause of the crash was unclear. A sheriff’s lieutenant told the Los Angeles Times a witness reported that the vehicle was hydroplaning on the wet road and speeding at 70 to 75 mph when it skidded into the channel, but it was too early to determine if this week’s storm was the primary cause of the crash.
Information on the identity of the fatally injured person was not immediately available. The cause of the crash was under investigation, the sheriff’s department reported.
