Anaheim police shot and killed a 20-year-old woman with a BB or pellet gun that apparently looked like a short-barrel assault weapon, the department announced.

Officers were called at about 9 a.m. Sunday to the 1200 block of South Anaheim Boulevard on a report of someone armed with a rifle, according to an Anaheim Police Department statement.
Arriving officers confronted the woman and then fired at her, police said. She was struck at least once.
She woman was treated at the scene and then taken to a hospital, where she died, police said. She was later identified as Abigail Lopez.
The BB or pellet rifle was recovered at the scene, police said. No officers were injured.
An investigation was underway by the Orange county District Attorney’s Office, Anaheim police and the Office of Independent Review.
