The city of Inglewood announced the promotion of Sharon Koike-Pitpit to Finance Director.
“Ms. Koike has been a solid member of the Inglewood team for over 12 years and has proven that she is the best person for the job,” wrote City Manager Artie Fields in an email to staff announcing the appointment.
“I wish her well and I am confident that she will serve the City well in her new position,” continued Fields.
The Finance Director position has been vacant since Dec. 2021 after the retirement of David Esparza.
The City conducted a national search through the Hawkins Group, which was responsible for bringing on many current employees, including Fields and the newly hired Economic Development Manager.
City Council agendas dating back to 2011 indicated that Koike was the Finance Director and then at some point was demoted to Assistant Finance Director.
Koike is coming into the role as the City continues to assemble the necessary funding to construct a nearly $3 billion transit connector project, and a FY 2023-204 balanced budget due in part to federal funds received under the American Rescue Plan Act.

The retirement of David Esparza??? Retirement in City of Inglewood means you were doing something wrong that would be considered illegal elsewhere. This guy was doing wrong all the time. Like he did when he ‘worked’ for City of LA. His Inglewood staff are dumbasses, probably hired so that they couldn’t figure out what is going on. This guy left in a hurry December of what, two years ago? A year ago? That would indicate he left a lot of problems behind. Clean up in aisle Finance! Guess they hired this woman who wouldn’t ask so many questions and agree to do everything she is TOLD to do. Sorry ass sheep.
Let’s go a step further and quote Treasurer Wanda Brown “Sharon Koike isn’t qualified to do the job.” which is probably why she was hired in as finance director back in 2011 but most likely didn’t pass probation. Oops!
