Inglewood residents weren’t able to watch the live feed of the City’s regular city council meeting held on Oct. 17 due to technical difficulties.
Residents have grown accustomed to not being able to watch live broadcasts of some meetings that contain controversial agenda items and/or topics.
The Oct. 17 meeting featured a $1700 invoice for two plastic keys to the city designated for Beyoncé and Inglewood resident Becky G.
Becky G was presented her key to the city during the council meeting.
“Beyond every recognition and award I’ve received in my career thus far, this is by far the most special. It’s cool to have the key to Inglewood now, because Inglewood has always had the key to my heart,” said Becky G during the ceremony.
The city did not publicize the ceremony by placing the presentation on the city council agenda.
According to the City, Becky G was given the key to the city for her extensive contributions to music and the community. This award makes Becky G the very first Latina to ever receive the City’s highest honor, joining an exclusive group of individuals who have shaped our vibrant community for the better.
She joins Issa Rae and D-Smoke who have also received the honor.
It is not known if (or when) the City will be presenting Beyoncé with hers.
