When Scarlet Kenwrick and Philippa Haile arrived at San Francisco International Airport this month, they checked out their Nissan Rogue from the Alamo Rent a Car kiosk and received a stern warning from the clerk.
Whatever you do, hide your valuables in your car, the clerk, whose son recently lost his bags when his car was burglarized, warned the friends visiting California from England for a road trip.
“She put the fear of God in us,” Haile laughed Saturday as the pair stood outside the SFO rental car return lobby. The friends already had concerns after watching numerous TikToks highlighting vehicle break-ins in the City by the Bay.
The two English friends drove straight from the airport to a Walmart and bought a pair of black blankets to hide their bags that wouldn’t fit in the rental car’s trunk. ( NEVER do this. ALWAYS drive STRAIGHT to your hotel!)
